Q:I am trying to wire up a digital thermostat. It has two black wires coming from the back of it, top and bottom. The wires coming from the wall are two wires and each have one black and one white for a total of two white wires and two black wires. How do I wire this thermostat up?Do I wire both whites to the top thermostat wire and both blacks to the bottom?I already tried both blacks to the top and both whites to the bottom and blew the damn thermostat up lol. This is to control two baseboard electrical heaters.
I am so impressed with the two answers from electrician that I must comment. Most of your buddies and a bunch of namby pambies, advise folks to get a professional electrician or plumber or whatever the trade might be. You are to be congratulated for your straight forward advice and help to the home handy-man do it yourself-er without belittling and admonishing him. Thanks By the way I have made a couple of sparks fly and am here to tell about it
Q:help! i have been searching but counldn't find the inventor HELP!
My old boss by stretching pennies!
Q:Does anyone know where I can get a good price on 200 amp copper wire (underground to hook up electricity to a doublewide. Hot#2 Copper, Ground #4Copper and Neutral #2 Copper. 330-350 feet Thanks
At that distance, you would be better with aluminum wire. BUT: #2 copper is 0.156 ohm/1000 feet. You have 700 feet, so the is a resistance of 0.11 ohms. At 200 amps, that is a drop of 22 volts, much too high. Requirement is 5% drop, and at 120 volts, that is 6 volts. #2 copper would be good for 55 amps only at that distance. .
Q:I always will not use the wire, please help out ~
Socket-type thin-walled steel pipe, referred to as KBG tube. The pipe is made of high quality cold-rolled strip steel, made by high-frequency welded pipe unit automatic weld, double-sided galvanized. Pipe wall thickness uniformity, winding roundness is high, with the pipe joint with a good tolerance, small and round the weld, the edge of the mouth smooth. There are Φ. Φ. Φ. Φ. Φ. Φ50 six specifications, the specific model size see the table below.
Q:I'm 16 now, but 5 years ago I started doing electrical work at home without anyone's supervision. I changed a few outlets and switches with new ones, and wired some new outlets in the basement where there weren't any. I did this while my parents went out bowling for the evening. If your son did that, how would you feel about that? I wired everything according to code, and turned off the right breaker while working on things.
Okay first every child has heard of the human centipede so many say that they've watched it when they got freaked by the trailer. It's not suitable for a child of 10 it's an 18 for a reason. And it may affect your child's mental health state and development more than you may think. I wouldn't recommend anyone watch it let alone a 10 year old
Q:I want to have my house re-wired, how much is involved? How much does it typically cost? Some more info: my house was built in the 1950's. I know the fuse box was updated, but my boyfriend and I are renovating it. Some outlets don't work and that scares me a lot. I'm on a budget, so please let me know what you think it will cost, as well as whats involved. Thanks in adavance:)
This is one of those questions that you really can't give a specific answer without seeing the house. Depends on where you live, the type and size of the house, and on and on. The best way to find out is to take bids from several electricians in your area. They should be willing to give you a free estimate, then you'll have some idea as to what it's going to cost you. But before you call them, you need to go room to room and decide if you want more outlets, light fixtures, smoke alarms, etc., and decide if you want to replace the drywall. If your going to replace the drywall, it'll be a lot cheaper to have the electrician run the wires while the wall is open. Sorry I couldn't give a more exact answer.
Q:I am installing a new exhaust fan in my bathroom and along the joist I will be attaching it to, there is a black electrical wire that runs right along it. There is a bit of play in it, and I guess I can tack it upwards to move it out of the way, but was wondering what would be the best way to take care of this. I think the original installation had the fan either pinned up against the wire or had the wire sitting on top of the fan unit. The new fan unit is bigger, so I don't think it can sit on top of the box. Note: this wire is not the same wire that is providing electricity to the fan.
In the UK house wiring uses Red for live, Black for neutral and Earth is bare copper (sometimes with a green or green/yellow sleeve). Take care, I've seen wire colours used in correctly - always verify. If you are not 100% sure get a qualified electrician, bad/ inncorrect house wiring can be lethal. For a plug (flex) Brown live (usually fused), blue neutral, green/yellow Earth. If you cut an old plug top off take out the fuse - this way is someone plugs it in to a socket they won't be exposed to live mains.
Q:Ten five hundred twenty two, five five five four three circles, seeking to explain more specific meaning
The distinction between special and non-specific depends on the nature of the load. Green line from the substation dedicated to the user, only for the user, do not accept the public network overhaul maintenance and power outages, also said that as long as the nearest substation power you have electricity; non-green as the public line. But now power supply reliability is so high, the city network are using ring network, the probability of power failure is small, not to mention you are using a dual power line, power failure is smaller, unless the area power outage. But you also have an important load on their own generators, so non-particularly important load, double power enough to meet its power supply needs.
Q:Describe how the electrical resistance of a wire changes as the wire becomes longer. How does the resistance change as the wires becomes thicker?
The resistance of a perfect resistor is R pAl where p is a resistivity constant (unchanged for a specific kind of wire), A is the cross sectional area (related to the thickness) and l is the length. If you increase l, can you see what happens to R?
Q:I have a halogen heater and one of the bulbs in it started flickering so I opened it up disconnected that bulb and found the casing around one of the wires connecting to it was burned off. So I have this exposed wire which is not connected to anything and was thinking about just covering it with duct tape and using the heater again. Now im not stupid and everything about this to me sounds like a bad idea but would like to get a second opinion on exactly how dangerous it would be, it would only be temporary until I got a new heater.
Where is the other end of that exposed wire connected to? Can you just cut it off clean with side cutters (wire cutters)? The wiring in the heater has a high temperature insulation rating but not general purpose duct tape. It will be a fire hazard. If you're going to get a new heater then just remove the bad wire for now.
