I'm wanting to create a vaulted tunnel below grade and I need it to be able to resist the standard tendency for cement fines to wash away in wet conditions.: Most construction cements today are hydraulic, and most of these are based on Portland cement, which is made primarily from limestone, certain clay minerals, and gypsum in a high temperature process that drives off carbon dioxide and chemically combines the primary ingredients into new compounds. Non-hydraulic cements include such materials as (non-hydraulic) lime and gypsum plasters, which must be kept dry in order to gain strength, and oxychloride cements, which have liquid components. Lime mortars, for example, set only by drying out, and gain strength only very slowly by absorption of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to re-form calcium carbonate through carbonatation.

Q:I'm looking for a place to buy white portland cement, in small amounts, like around 100-200 pounds. I've looked at all the local hardware stores and can't seem to find anything but grey and I need white. thanks: It is incorrect to say that there is not actually White Cement and that it is an additive like in colored concrete. White Cement is just hard to find because it is uncommon. The chances that your local ready mix producer would have it in his silo is almost none. When they have to use it they have to get in in bags but since they are typically running at least 470 lbs a yard they buy it by the pallet. You might ask them who they get it from and then see if they would give you a number since you will only need a few bags. They might be happy to so they don't have to deal with it and then you can contact the cement producer or broker.

Q:Hey. Could anyone please tell me if it would work to mix fast curing cement with Portland cement so it would cure faster than normal. Because with weather getting colder its really hard to cure cement properly, but since I'm working on tight budget it is really expensive to use only fast curing cement.Thank you: Hi, Yes you can add a rapid set cement to your regular cement to make it go off quicker. I would recommend using an accelerator within the mix rather than using a rapid set. I would also (depending on what you are doing) use the correct insulation once you have poured the concrete - so use a thermal blanket, or straw and a plastic sheet. Keep it protected from the wind/water/elements for as long as you can - the longer the concrete has to set the stronger it becomes. As a word of warning however, if you put too much accelerator in or cure the concrete too fast, you will get a weaker concrete, that at worst will crack and crumble, so always consult the manufacturers instructions. Concrete setting causes an exothermic reaction meaning if you cover it properly it'll keep itself warm. Remember that if its below 5 degrees (Celsius) you shouldn't pour concrete! Hope that helps!

Q:So I am doing a little project outside. I need to connect a pvc pipe to a rubber hose. water will be flowing between these two. I am going to use some sort of sealent along with a clamp thingy but wondering what type of sealent should i use. Is there a particular one should i use?: you can use sealant if you want, but a hose clamp will work fine by itself. i've done this many times and the connection doesn't come apart or leak.

Q:and it was lumpy can i still use it or will the lumps interfer with the leveling process, ( and how liquidy should i make it) i experimented with a little amount and it just didn't look right so i threw it out.. it's the firt time i'm using a self leveling product: Never NEVER try to work with lumpy cement. Toss it and start over. Mix well make sure you enough but not too mcuh water. Cement of any type needs to be smooth and easily spread.
