- You could lay over what is there if the ceramic isn't slick or shiny on top. Getting off the old may not be as hard as one would think. Then again it may be a bear, I'd smack one with a hammer and just see how hard it would be to get out. This would not create such a height gain in the long run. If it is a nightmare then I'd cement the broken tile you took outs spot and go over top what is there if possible. Getting the old cement board completely out I believe would be a chore but I may be wrong.

- There's no need to tape the seams of cement board, as long as you get a good close fit it should be ok. You've made a wise choice using cement board, at least on the lower half of the shower enclosure area, greenboard, while being somewhat moisture resistant is not impervious to water damage. It should be used above the cement board and will do a good job there. The seams in it will need to be taped, at least above the top edge of the surround.
- Q:I would like to replace my carpet with a real hard wood floor., but my floor under the carpet is cement. Can any one give me advise as to how I go about this. want to do it myself.
- It can be a big job. You can use an engineered wood floor and glue it down (This is not like laminate more like plywood, the top layer is relatively thick and could be refinished years down the road if needed). First you have to make sure you don't have excessive moisture in the slab. Seal it if needed. I have a glue down hardwood floor my bedroom is 25+ years old and a few years ago did the rest of my house. It's fine. If you want to DIY do some reading about it first. Get a how to book on-line or at a home improvement center. It is certainly doable. The comment about access, regardless of your flooring choice ripping up the slab will obviously ruin the floor, so I don't think that is a consideration. Tile doesn't like being ripped up either.
- Q:Installing tile in my laundry room. put down the cement board with a mortar/thin set base under it, then nailed it down according to manufacturer's instructions. The mortar/thin set totally dried then I had to do a few loads of laundry before I was able to put any tile down. Unfortunately one of the hoses hooked up to the washer leaked and soaked the cement board and I'm sure also the sub-floor. Do I need to rip out the cement board and re install before I install the tile? obviously I would need to ensure the floor is fully dry before I install the tile. Thanks
- I do not think you need to rip it out. Just let it dry for a week or so before you install the tile.

- gotta break it up, if you want it out. Why not cover over it? If you are dead set on removal start at the top of wall break through to the wire. Start cutting the wire and pulling it free from the wall.
