Q:I‘m thinking about putting ceramic tile in my living room. I just want to know if anybody has strong opinions, one way or the other, as to whether or not ceramic tile is really the right flooring for a living room. Basically, I want to know if it will be good for resale. Links to home design survey results, with related questions, would be helpful.: I have some input on this one. I tiled my entire house with the exception being 4 of the 5 bedrooms that I carpeted. I layed my living room tile on a 45 45 Degree angle to the walls. ( Looks like diamonds even though the tiles are still square). I did this because I didn't want a big square grid in the largest room of my home. I would suggest a 45 or a brick pattern or even a pattern in a pattern for a large area. The only draw back that I found was the difference in noise in other parts of the house. I never would have guessed that carpet absorbed so much sound. I wound up buying a 12x20 foot piece of carpet that was the same as the bedrooms and had it backed and hemmed ( thus making a area rug out of it) It helped out with the noise problem. I can no longer hear water from the kitchen while I'm in the back office. Tile is great and you can be as creative as you want with it. It is very easy to care for and keep clean, doesn't hold allergens, and is nice and cool in the summer. ( It's a bit cool in the winter too.) I'd do it the same way again if had too.Good luck !! Q:I‘m looking to upgrade my brakes- not anything extreme, just rotors and pads. For the rotors, I know drilled ones don‘t last as long because they tend to develop more cracks. But someone told me that slotted rotors really only work on race cars, where the slot serves to wipe off the glaze that forms on the pad under extreme braking conditions. Is this true? Would slotted rotors help at all under normal street conditions?And pads I‘ve read a couple places that metallic pads work better than ceramic pads- any truth to that?Thanks for your help!: nan

Q:Is silicon and ceramic tile caulk the same thing?Is there a way to make more silicon come out of the tube while using the pump you put the tube in? Thanls: Silicone and most ceramic tile caulks are generally not the same. If its a caulk to match a grout color it is not the same. Check the clean up method on each . Silicone needs mineral spirits or a strong cleaner similar. If its a water clean up , its latex based and completely different. Both have there usages. Silicone will dry hard but can be a bit flexable to the touch. Latex based caulks will dry very hard. The only way to get more to come out of the caulk gun is to cut a bigger hole in the tip of the tube. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL

Q:Using 3/4 interlocking plywoodCurrent ceramic floor has cabinets installed over it - new floor will be laminate and they recommend Luan plywood how am I going to match original height so cabinets backsplash and plumbing all go back at correct height?: Even thick ceramic can be inappropriate for oven use. Look on the bottom of the dish, does it say conventional-oven safe? If not, then don't put it in a hot oven. I used to bake bread in a coffee can, nice for the holidays. You can also bake in your pyrex mixing bowls, but be sure to cool upside down on dry towels covered with waxed paper or paper bags.

Q:I‘m a 20yo female getting braces on TOMORROW for the first time, and I am in a major dilemma. Money is not an issue in this decision, because ceramics cost the same as metal braces. Ceramic braces look funny because it looks like you have demented teeth. if i were you i'd just get metal. they are cheaper, work faster, and give you a better result. you also get to pick a colour for them :)
