- It's not for sure, that your monitor is broken. you should try starting the computer with another monitor. Possibilities: -your video-card might be lose -your data cable might be faulty -there could be a contact-fault within the monitor

- Well, LCD is deffinately the way to go, but wide screen and non widerscreen are different. You can get a non widescreen lcd monitor and a widescreen LCD monitor. The sizes of the LCD and CRT moniters are the same for non widescreen but you can't get a non widescreen CRT monitor. I would get the non widescreen LCD if your gonna go with 17 because widescreens look small unless you get maybe a 19 or 21. Hope this helps

If I have the money I get a new one otherwise I buy refurbished! If you want to repair monitors then do the refurbished thing. I doubt very much if you'd get many people coming with monitors needing repair!

- LCD definitely! I used to not like the LCD's very much, but now that I have one (19) I love it! I wouldn't go back to a CRT. My mom has a 17 flat CRT, and it works goodbut it's an eyesore because of it's size and the quality is SO much better with an LCD. Seriously, it's like night and day, so I'd go with the LCD.
