Q:thank u very much but sorry just wondering if wooden flooring would make a difference to the warmth of the floor
Temperature wise, I think that wood floors are warmer. Color wise, they are usually warmer as well because most of the time they are brown and when they are a little duller than plastic, that seems to warm the room up as well. I probably have a large bias against laminate flooring though. I think it is such a waste of money. It usually looks like hell from the beginning at least, and it will guarunteed look like hell eventually. Wood flooring can last forever, if you take care of it, and even if you don't take care of it, it still has that rustic quality.
Q:I am naming a line of laminate flooring that will be in stores. The name should suggest that the floor is quiet, peaceful and sounds like real hardwood. Any suggestions?
For goodness sake whatever you do do not name the floor for its locking mechanism. No click this or that or blah blah lock. Customers don't care about that stuff and it makes the floor seem cheap and diy. Unless you're going for diy. Earthwood, Silentwood, Something Forest, or a name that refers to a particular geographic region, Appalachia, Rocky Mountain, etc., seem good to me. But what do I know, I just install the stuff.
Q:Hello,I was looking forward to painting the garage door over the winter vacation, because it keeps peeling and cracking. However, I was wondering how I should paint the floor this time because the last time i did, the paint peeled very quickly. Also, is the temperature too cold to paint? (i am ok painting in freezing temperatures, however will it kill the paint?)Thanks
Not sure where you live, but, surface temp has to be at least 50 degress in most situations. With concrete floor coatings, prep is the key. An acid solution is imperative to cleaning the floor and it will not harm any existing paint that may be there, it will only attact exposed concrete. A pressure washer is not needed for this application. The floor must dry for about a week. Follow instructions for whatever product that you use. Remember, the acid cleaning has to happen whether you use a latex, oil, epoxy or any other type floor paint. Wait until next summer, perfect months would be april, may, and august, september. good luck.
Q:in an home with a dirt floor basement.
Fitting/Replacing Prices Job 1 Your living room floor is loose in the bay window. You have cleared the room of small stuff, he will move necessary furniture and roll back the carpet. Then put it all back again. Worse case scenario is a days work for 2 men plus materials Materials ?250, Labour (2 men at ?17 per hour each) Price: ?520.00
Q:I am considering pulling up my carpet and painting the cement. I do not like the carpet, but I would not mind hard woods, but that is a little too much money. I have also thought of tiling the floors. How hard is it to pull the carpet up, ready the cement, and eventually paint the floor? How much money will I be needing? Suggestions please!
they sell paint specifically for concrete, make sure to look for paint that is for basement/garage floors I used one from Rustoleum, you have to go pretty quick cause its an enamel that you create by pouring 2 mixes together and it has a pot life of an hour
Q:what is the biggest size tank (in gallons) that you could have on the second floor of a house?
If your house is in good condition and was built to code, it will take a 75 gallon no problem. You could probably go up to a 90. I would recommend putting the tank up against a wall as opposed to the middle of the room or something. Most stands are designed to go up against a wall anyway. A good rule of thumb is 1 gallon is roughly 10 pounds plus the gravel, glass, and stand. A 75 will probably weigh around 850-900 pounds.
Q:Pergo Flooring install question
i might want to caution you to in elementary words attempt this if the self stick tiles are okay adhered. in the adventure that they are nicely adhered you could deploy vinyl over it yet make positive that it truly is comfortable. to ward off the embossing trend of your previous tiles from showing by the hot floor you could flow to a house middle and purchase some embossing leveler. stick with the embossing leveler with a flat trowel in a skinny layer. once the leveler is dry, you could start installation your new flooring. i'm assuming you've tried to get rid of area of the former floor already consequently your statement..very complicated to get rid of present vinyl floor. you've to fill in the area you tried to get rid of with some scrap flooring to carry it back as a lot because the point of your previous floor. ultimately as a note of caution, do not assume the producer of your new flooring to uphold any assure claims as maximum flooring manufacturers require an approved underlayment be put in previous to installation a clean floor. sturdy success!
Q:Looking for a green safe way to lay carpet onto of the basement floor with pading. Existing Carpet was glued down. I have a new born baby and the basement didn't get finished before she was born. I feel it is unsafe now to lay the carpet now. but if they don't us glue is their a way to staple into concret floor.
If you use carpet tiles......you wont have to glue them down. They are much more inexpensive as well and you can make a pattern with them or have multiple colors. Check it out.
Q:i am going to put laminate flooring in my condo. i want to know if i can do the whole house as one contiguous floor or if i should break up the rooms.
I think aesthetically, a continuous floor looks a little bit nicer, but practically, you should break it up. First off, if it's a click-lock system (most laminate is), the longer a continuous stretch you have, the more likely you are to get gaps or bowing over time (of course, bowing is much less likely if you leave proper expansion space around walls). Second, as another answer has pointed out, one part of the floor may be damaged, or you or a later owner may simply want to change a floor in one room. Separating the rooms allows you that flexibility.
Q:I am getting ready to lay some laminate flooring. I am going to replace the bueatiful parquet flooring the previous owners left in the dining room and the linoleum tiles placed over the linoleum sheet floor in the attached kitchen!! (The previous sentence was written with sarcasm!!) I have removed the parquet and both layers of linoleum, and was left with the subfloor covered in dry glue where the parquet was and what looks like floor leveler where the linoleum was. The glue for the parquet is some what even but coarse, the "floor leveler" is cracked and big pieces are missing sporadically around floor where it came up with the flooring.I was wondering how even the floor has to be for the laminate? I am going to be putting down padding, but want to make sure I don't have boards that sink when you walk on them. If you do recomend me removing the filler and the glue, what do you think I should use? Thanks.
The click and lock laminate flooring can go over a floor or subfloor with irregularities. I locks together as a sheet, and is a floating floor. You must be certain to use the underlayment, or it will squeak like crazy, and make certain that ALL the joins are true, with NO gapping or you will have huge problems down the road. If you have two pieces that absolutely won't join smoothly, even with tapping, put them aside and place them with a different sheet. No amount of hitting and yelling will make them work together.
