Q:I have just started wire working to make bracelets. I have a few questions. 1, is there a place where I can buy thick wire (16 to 18 gauge) in bulk? The items I am making take about a yard of wire. Considering the only thing I could find was 16 (or slightly hire) gauge in 7 foot increments. For new wire workers, do you have any suggestions on cheap practice materials. Q:I want to install a single-pole dimmer switch for a series of 4 pot lights in the same box (double gang) as a kill switch for a receptical already installed. There is a 14-3 wire (b/w/r/g) brigning power into the box from the main, and 14-2 wiring for the dimmer and 14-2 wire for the kill switch. How do I wire this? The single pole dimmer has a ground and two black wires. The switch to kill the receptical has only two brass screws on one side.: Before you go cutting any wires, please verify what each is to/for. I am concerned that the 14-3 is not the incoming from the panel. There is a chance for 2 other possibilities: 1) The power is fed from the light fixture (using the 14-3). If this is the case, the black will be the constant hot and the red will be the switched power returning to the fixture. 2) The 14-3 is actually the wire to the receptacle for a half-hot (half switched receptacle). If I am wrong, then so be it. If I am correct it will totally change how this gets connected. If you have already cut that red wire, you'll be regretting it.

Q:I wired up my brothers stereo in his 1994 volvo 850. At the time, I knew nothing about wiring harnesses so I did everything one wire at a time. I got it working but the stereo can still run with the car off. If you turn the radio off, a small led stays lit on the front. My brother couldn't get his car to start this morning. Could this little light be drawing enough power to run the battery dead over night? Should he just get a wiring harness and hook wires up like that?: If the stereo runs even with the ignition turned off, then you have wired a continuous power supply to the radio instead of an accessory, and that will drain his battery. I always recommend using a wiring harness when installing an aftermarket stereo, as there is no way you can accidentally wire something wrong.

Q:I want to make wire art but I'm not sure what type of wire to use: They also sell rolls of other wire, click on metals in the top sequence, choose one then choose wire.

Q:You have a 3 foot wide wire, vs a .3 inch wire. They are equal length. There is 3 volts going through each wire, to power your 1 volt LED. So, would the 3 foot wide wire have less resistance ? I don't even think it would work.: Because there are a lot more electrons available in that ridiculously large wire.

Q:How can you make the fabric with silk fabric wrinkle free after washing?: Hand washing machine or washing machine without special injection, dilute the product with water, and stir evenly, put into the laundry, soak for 3 minutes, remove and air.

Q:I keep trying to strip this damned wire but the copper wire inside the tubeing constantly ends up getting split apart instead of staying together. Im pretty sure Im doing it right Ive done it before easily. The wire is very old though could that be the problem?: You need a tool that cuts through the insulation with a pair of half circle dies so that the wire is surrounded by the cutter, but not bruised by it. Of course, you need a different size for each wire gauge. Some also pull the insulation chunk off automatically with a single squeeze. Q:I have two alpine 1242d. I need to wire them parallel parallel. Ive seen many pictures on how to do it but im still a little confused. Okay first off do i need any special type of wiring or will my 4awg wire work. Because it shows multiple wire connections where the wires combine. The positive connect from an existing wire already running to the amp. If anyone understand what i mean can you explain it to me. Thank you much appreciated!: First off, your 4 awg wire will work for powering your amp but its right on the edge, I would go with 1/0 if your amp terminals will accept that gauge. Second, you don't have to make all those connections with one speaker wire, that diagram is simply showing you the current path. If you want a really simple way to do this, cut three strips of speaker wire and strip the ends about 3/8 of an inch. stick one end of each positive wire into one of the positive terminals on any voice coil. now run one wire to the + amp terminal, one wire to the other + voice coil on the same sub, and one wire to either of the + voice coil terminals on the other sub. now strip a fourth wire and connect the two + terminals on the second sub. repeat the same procedure for the - terminals. I reccomend using 14 or 16 gauge speaker wire for this. Good luck

Q:I want to connect a fan with light and pull chain only to a box that has the old wiring black and white to the new wiring black,white and green.Is this possible and how do I do it.: Black to black, white to white, the ground goes to the metal box. Only use a light weight fan, less than 6 lbs. KT wiring should be replaced ASAP. The insulation on the old wiring deteriorates over the years with heat and become a fire hazard. Most insurance companies want that type of wiring removed.
