- Although I haven't seen it done I imagine that especially for very high cranes it's done most often with cables and winches (utilizing a pivot point at the bottom of the structure). For many lower cranes such as those found on vehicles hydraulic lifting is sufficient.

In which you would need to study psychology and sociology. Many colleges also have a criminology major. If not, then I would say that he is a psychiatrist (a medical doctor that deals with workings of the mind) who is used as a consult by the Gotham City Police Department. To be a psychiatrist, one needs a medical degree, and to also study psychology and sociology. However, to by a psychologist, you don't need the medical degree. - It might - but the center of gravity and the tripod might not be able to hold the weight of the jib, camera, counter-weights... and personally, I think it would be a pretty expensive mistake to watch my $2,000 camcorder fall and brake because the camera crane collapsed under the weight. A mic tripod is designed to handle about a pound of weight. A consumer camcorder, the jib and counterweights (and maybe a mic or whatever else you throw on there) can be between 5 pounds and 50 pounds. That's why companies like Kessler make what they make. And that's why the companies that makes lesser camera cranes (Cobra, CameraCranes, and others) never use a mic tripod. They use a heavy duty camera tripod or other LARGE, STRONG, item - not a mic stand.

- Of course you need specialised training! Crane operators have to sit several courses in safe crane operations. Crane operators tend to just work cranes and not help with general building work as they earn more money and it is only cost effective to have them on site when they are actually needing to use the crane.

- There are two cranes, one lifts the other and construction workers build a scaffold under it. Then the higher crane lifts the lower one and the workers buiold a scaffold under it, this continues until they are as high as they need to be.
