Q:A couple years ago the power in our area was out for two whole weeks because of ice and such, we stayed warm thanks to gas heating but now I'm in an all electric mobile home in the same area. All I want to power is the refrigerator, deep freeze, microwave, one laptop and at least one, maybe two little plug in heaters.I need to know what size/type generator to get and if I need a separate kit or anything in order to hook up to my mobile home. I don't want to buy the wrong type or size and find out it doesn't work in the middle of an ice storm again.Thank you for any and all help, it's very much appreciated.
Add up the wattage and look for the correct size to supply it.
Q:If electric vehicles included a generator they could charge the battery while moving. It seems the best choice to me.
It seems you are asking about a generator that is separate from a diesel or petrol engine and are only referring to the part that turns the mechanical motion into electrical motion. AND You answered your own question. Such a generator attached to a vehicle would through its operation slow the vehicle. As it turns the vehicle inertial into electricity the vehicle will slow. We call this regenerative braking and in some electric vehicles this is done electronically by switching the electric motor into a dynamo (a generator.) But this does not suddenly make a perpetual motion machine. The car continues to lose energy to resistance that is not recovered.
Q:hi i have problem in my kipor diesel generator kde 6700ta 5kvathe problem is that when i start it then its voltage reduce from 230volts to 186 volts and so on what is the problem plz tell me i live in backward area here is no expert in these generators.
hie guys i have a kipor 5kva generator i started it oky after running for 10 miniters and it switched off.i went t check what was wrong and found the generator was overheat.what can cause this problem
Q:Do they look any different? I can not see the difference and I do not know which trains are electric and which ones are diesel. If there is any difference in appearance, what is the difference?
One of the most obvious differences is that usually, (with the exception of DMU's, or Diesel Multiple Units, and railmotors, railcars, etc), is that Diesels don't have windows, except for the cab windows. Another obvious diffence is Diesels (as said above in previous answers) do not obtain power from overhead wires, or Catenary as they are called. Electric trains are a lot quieter, they don't have a sort of diesel smell about them, they accelerate faster, and they don't emmit any exhaust. Electric trains can also be pointed out easily if the Pantograph, or current collector can be seen. The Pantograph is a moveable frame on the roof of one or more carriages in an electric train that makes contact with the Catenary (electric wires above the track) and takes the power to the train, hence making it go. Electric trains can also receive electricity from a live third rail, or in some cases (such as the London Underground), 2 additional live rails (forth rail). A confusing point - Diesels can operate on track with and without Catenary, however, (overhead) electric trains can ONLY operate on track with Catenary. Likewise for thrid rail electrics, they can only operate on track with an additional live rail. Hope this helps.
Q:Diesel?Coal?I mean modern trains, like freight and passenger ones. Thanks!
Indeed, diesel is the primary means of fueling the common diesel-electric locomotive most commonly used today. Others include straight electric locomotives that are typically powered using alternating current transmission (AC), although in years past these used to be powered using outdated direct current transmission (DC). Of note, some of the new environmentally friendly models use battery power to cut way down on emissions and only use backup generators when their batteries need recharged.
Q:I just watched the Chernobyl Diaries and it made me really interested with the actual disaster and the impact of it. I never really knew anything about it up until watching this movie and it just fascinates me. What happened that the nuclear plant exploded? Did people did from it? What is Chernobyl like today? Just some interesting facts about the whole thing would be great!
On April 26, 1986, the operating crew planned to test whether the Reactor No. 4 turbines could produce enough energy to keep the coolant pumps running until the emergency diesel generator was activated in case of an external power loss. During the test, power surged unexpectedly, causing an explosion and driving temperatures in the reactor to more than 2,000 degrees Celsius—melting the fuel rods, igniting the reactor’s graphite covering, and releasing a cloud of radiation into the atmosphere. The precise causes of the accident are still uncertain, but it is generally believed that the series of incidents that led to the explosion, fire and nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl was caused by a combination of reactor design flaws and operator error.
Q:How many gallons of diesel would br required to run this generator for 24 hours??
Consumption of fuel is actually dependent on the model used so it can vary, your best resource is to get the figures from a manufacturer, take for example the Generac II Emergency Power Systems provide a Diesel Model EPS-8D see link below for full specs: So if we based on this model which consumes 0.88 gallons per hour, running for 24 hours would eat up 21.12 gallons of diesel per generator. As to the amount of current you wish to get that would depend on other set up and implements that you hook to the generator. You may need more than 1 generator to get the total amperage that you are looking for. See the equipment specs.
Q:I have never had any interest in cars until recently when diesel engines have started to feel like important and valuable power sources moving forward.

Q:I am looking for back up power generator. Any suggestions?
For used medium size portable temporary units about $100 to $150 US per KW. Plus the required transfer switch and permits and inspections if you intend to power your house with it. This is for a manual start gasoline powered unit. As you add options the price goes up and may triple in hurricane season in the path of the storm. The quietest unit I've found are Honda, but they are more expensive. Any unit smaller than 15KW should be considered a short term unit good for maybe 2000 hours of run time. A 15 KW unit should be a permanent installation with a mounting pad and at least a 7 day supply of fuel on site. For this a licensed qualified professional electrical contractor should be consulted. As convenient as they may be, they can get to be expensive to install and operate.
