Q:I know a wooden floor is ideal for dancing ballet...but what are some floors you shouldn't dance on?Is carpeted floor okay?
The best floor is one that is sprung so that it can absorb some of the force of landing from leaps and jumps and thus spare your knees from excess pounding. If a wood surface is placed directly on top of concrete, it's pretty pointless, as concrete would be the worse kind of floor to dance on. Besides, most dancers these days prefer marley on top of a sprung wooden floor. As for carpet, I suppose you're asking in terms of practicing at home? Because carpet is certainly not a good surface for ballet. And, again, the key factor is what is underneath. Practicing in your carpeted basement still means that you're on top of concrete. But since you're probably not going to be moving around much if you're practicing at home, it doesn't much matter what the surface is. My daughter marked moves, stretched, and thought up choreography in her bedroom that has shag carpeting. Practice wherever you're able to; just make sure you are kind to your knees.
Q:the people who we bought the house from just polished the floors right over dirt...is there anything that can be done?
You need a liquid floor cleaner that contains ammonia. Ammonia is the secret ingredient that breaks down floor wax, as it goes after the cross-linked chemical bonds. You may need to use a high concentration of the cleaner, perhaps even use it straight, and allow it to soak in place for a few minutes to allow it to break down the wax. Then simply mop the floor to pick up the residue. A rotory floor scrubber (the type the professionals use) using either a mild abrasive pad or a polishing pad, will make the whole job faster. (don't use too abrasive of a pad, or it will damage the floor). Caution: avoid the temptation to use straight ammonia, as the vapors are too strong and could kill you! Just find a good quality floor cleaner that specifically states that it contains ammonia. Your local home center sells professional strength floor cleaners that will do the job.
Q:I'd like to know as the question states the average height of an office building 50 stories tall, from ground floor floor to the roof. TY :)
A 50 floor office building will always have a basement for parking or if not, it will be having a podium which might be around 4 to 5 levels. The ground floor also should be higher than the typical floor. Say: 1. Ground floor averages around 4.5 to 6m level 2. Podium averages from 3.1 to 4m level 3. Typical floors from 2.7 to 3.1m level Hence: GF = 4.5 Podium 3.1 x 5 = 15.5m typical floors = 2.7 x 44 = 138.8m say 140m from the Ground floor level (minimum)
Q:old house, wooden floors
first determine where the floor sags. Lay a 6ft. or longer level across the floor in sections, you must then discover if the floor is accessible from below. if it is re support the floor joists and while you are there apply project liquid nails to any gaps in flooring and joists. Now, after you have gotten the floor fairly level; and depending on what type of floor is going to go down, use leveling thin set to take out the uneven spots. good luck with your project.
Q:want to build an apartment downstairs without noise coming thru floor
If you could insulate the floorboards from the joists, that would cut a lot of noise. But since the floor is probably already in place, the best you can do is to put padding and carpet above, and insulation (fiberglass batt or other) above the downstairs apt. wallboard ceiling. You can also attach acoustic ceiling tile to the apt. ceiling. If any walls also are shared between upstairs and downstairs, you'll want to insulate those, too.
Q:Is to strengthen the floor does not intend to change the floor is rented house
No, can only wait natural ventilation retraction, as to the extent that the floor of the substrate to see the water swelling rate
Q:Does anyone still use the big floor speakers? Ive got my Cerwin Vegas and just wont part with them. They rock.
Floor speakers seem to be limited now to the audiophiles among us, it is simply impossible to reproduce the fidelity of a full range speaker set. I can however give you a notable reason why floor speakers are less popular today though. Floor speakers require a powerful amplifier and they get very loud, the inherent problem with this, is that rather then just for music these days, people use receivers for home theater, proper surround sound works on the premise that there is a sizable balance between rear and front channels and very few affordable setups come with a rear and center channel that can balance a large high wattage front set.
Q:I pulled up my old vinyl kitchen flooring (7 years old) and found that the underlayment is in great shape except that the original vinyl was just glued about 3 inches around the entire perimeter. I scraped the old glue as best as possible and it is almost perfectly level with the rest of the floor. Does it need to be perfectly smooth where it meets the unglued edge or is a slight ridge OK to keep it from showing through the new vinyl flooring? I do have floor "sizing" that I plan to use where there are any nicks or impressions. Should I use the sizing around the edges and taper to the good flooring or am I overdoing this project? I plan to lay new vinyl flooring this wekend. I'd appreciate any good advice. PS: I also tried sanding the old glue to take off any high ridges using 80 paper. Thanks
You were fortunate to have armstrong perimeter glued product installed. So yes the floor would be in good enough condition. Some must do's These are important for warranty and longevity of your vinyl floor. Floor needs to be extremely smooth not to show through residental vinyl with its sheen. Use Portand cement products only they are good moisture resistors. I personally use ardex feather finsh it is very strong and will spread very nicely. Spread the ardex over all joints in the floor and where old glue was scraped. It dries in about 1/2 hour, using a fan to quicken the drying process. When dry sand ridges smooth and then do a very good sweep. Using a hand broom to make sure the floor is clean, I also use a joiny knife to scrap across the floor to make sure no old staples in the floor have started to rise up. Vinly is suppossed to be rolled with a 75 to 100 lb roller but if you use a wet rag and start pushing out air from center to edges you will acheive a good enough bond. A 1/4 piece of rice would look like a mountain under the vinyl. Anything larger than a grain of sand can be seen under the right lighting conditions so again smoothness is key. Good Luck Im sure you will be happy with your acheivement.
Q:im trying to clean the floors in my living room, but i was told not to use water or anything like that because it could damage the wood. we have laminate pergo floors in the house, what is something safe to clean it with that will still work well?
A cup of vinegar in a gallon of water...:)
Q:My friend's house recently renovated, bought XX brand floor, only installed only a few months to find the floor stitching at the end of the trough to read the tea, the more and more serious cracks. So he was looking for business repairs, businesses only to their home for a few walls on the wall, the repair, not only did not fix the problem is even greater, almost every crack can be effortlessly stuffed under a few business cards. He was very wondering why the floor will produce from the seam? Is not installed when there is any problem, re-install to pay attention to what the problem? Please give pointers. More
The reasons are as follows: 1, from the wet spring and summer season into the relatively dry autumn and winter season, continuous abnormal dry weather is only a solid wood flooring within the water a lot of out of nothing. 2, the sun direct exposure. 3, a long time open air conditioning, doors and windows closed, no moist air supplement. 4, pavement before the gap between the larger space, encountered dry weather gap is more obvious. Solution: no formal drying caused by the treatment. So when installed in the wood floor can be covered with a layer of plastic film, on the one hand play a moisture and prevent the role of wood flooring from scratch, on the other hand has a certain sound insulation effect. In addition, two or three days in advance to the wooden floor to be placed in the indoor, so that the wood to adapt to the indoor temperature, but also to prevent the wood floor from Alice.
