- Q:I had a stucco like substance on my bathroom ceiling that was peeling and falling off. I scraped it all off and found a layer of pink paint beneath the stucco that also was peeling in many spots. I am considering scraping the remaining paint off then filling in uneven spots and corners with spackling compound then painting over the whole thing again but I am concerned that the spackle will not adhere well in the spotted areas. - You can purchase mold killing paint in a number of hardware stores. Go ahead and scrape off the remaining paint, then paint it with the mold killing primer (Kilz), then paint normally. As for the patching: Spray the affected areas with a mildewicide, and then spackle. Paint with mold killing primer, and paint as normal. You might think about replacing the fan as well.

- Accoustical privacy is important in some shared spaces. There is sound attenuation batting which can be used between joists & around ducting even w/ a lay in type ceiling. Rigid fiber insulation is available for ducting as well. Regular fiberglass insulation is less expensive if you fill the entire space between joists. There is also sound damping drywall that can be used on ceiling but a double thickness of the regular stuff is less expensive will work ( but double the work) Have seen all of these remedies used on fmr job specified by accoustical engineers. Does not seem to be as much of a problem in residential type frame construction. Take one step at a time.. Might go for the duct wrap first & see how that goes then add batting then see how that goes then decide how you want to finish it off . The ducts are the main culprit but are the easiest part to fix. if needed , under floor batting will help kill noise from above as well as contain noise from below. Best regards

- Q:Hello, our house has a big crack in the ceiling running from on wall to the other ( only about 3 feet cause its a entrance way) and I was wondering if there is anyway to fix it properly? We will be selling the home in a year and don't want it to scare anyone off BUT also don't want to just paint over it ( may get sued for concealing a problem). Any ideas or thoughts? Are we screwed and may have to leave it and the house won't sell as fast?:(
- First clean the crack out as deep as you can ,and about one half inch or more if needed deep. Then fill with dry wall compound level with old plaster. Let this dry a day.
