- There are all kinds of solutions for your situation. The hardware ranges from less than $20.00 for a simple USB scanner, to over $500.00 for a mountable, slide-in, network ready scanner. Some of the hardware comes bundled with software. It really depends on what your needs and budget are. At a minimum, you will need to get a reader that can read the PDF417 barcode. If you get a smart-card reader, make sure it also reads PDF417 barcodes.

- Most card readers will generally plug into the usb2.0 interface on the mobo. I must admit although they are likely out there, I have never come across one using IEEE (firewire) before :S Good luck ;)

- PS3 recognizes almost all USB accessories including mouse and keyboard (when you are surfing the internet) and even USB hubs if you wan to add more USB ports. Therefore, it shld be able to recognize your card reader.

- A card reader is to insert the memory cards or sticks from devices like a digital camera. In fact when you put in the memory card then it is the same a USB drive. If you don't have a digital device with a memory card then you should just get a Flash Drive. Same thing without the reader and it fits nicely on your keychain.

- I always use a card reader with my flash camcorder and my digital cameras that take video. I find it much easier to copy/paste from the card reader. You can of course download your flash drive camcorder via USB cord.

- There is generally a software cd to install on your computer. You do that? If not, the card reader should be working. Uninstall the software for that, and try to redo it!
