I was looking at a cost of around $170, plus installation for an insulated panel replacement. If the entire door needs to be replaced because it is no longer made or there is damage to the frame, and it is insulated, then you are looking at a cost averaging $1,000 US dollars. There is an upside to this, though -- since you were in your vehicle, your auto insurance should have this under the liability section of your policy. If you dont' carry liability on your vehicle, then your landlord should work with you on payments in addition to your rent. (They won't evict a reliable tenant for the cost of a door.) - Q:I recently purchased a 2000 Grand Am that had the stereo stripped out by the previous owner. It appears that there may have also been an alarm installed as well that was stripped out. When I recieved the vehicle the automatic door locks did not work and still do not. When I try to use them I do hear a click noise coming from the interrior fuse box. I need to know where I should start looking for the reasoning behind why it is not working and how to go about fixing it. Any ideas?
- .The clicking you hear is the relay snapping shut. That really narrows the problem down. At least with that you know the remote, the receiver, and the coil feed is working. You need to get to the relay and see if it is getting power on the hot side (not the coil). If so then see if it is making contact to send the power to the locks. Then you'll have to just trace it to the doors. I seriously doubt both of the solenoids (part that locks and unlocks the door) went bad at the same time.
- Q:I have a Honda odyssey 2004 and lately I have been having problems with the back doors sliding. Sometimes when I try to close the doors with the remote like I always do, one of the back doors will not slide on its own. Do you know why that maybe happening? I thought maybe when I took it to get an oil change at sears that they mistreated the car. It wasn't doing that before then. Yea I try to close it with the remote and it gets stuck, and then it doesn't close unless I try a couple of times or pushing it manually. Its annoy because if you close the door manually then you can't lock it with the remote. Any thoughts on why its doing that?
- There is a center door roller that slides along the horizontal track that is half-way between the roof and the floor. You need to make sure that track is clean and lubricated. Typically on the Odyssey the track gets an accumulation of dirt and grit over time and the center roller will get hung up on it. So the first thing to do is to have the track cleaned and lubricated. If you don't then you'll cause the roller to wear or break (its possible that this has happened already) the second common cause is that the door that is out of alignment. Those doors can be aligned but its no easy thing to do. Its not unusual for the door to go out of alignment from continual opening and closing. the earlier models had problems with the contact switches on the door and the door post. I think the problems were addressed by 2004, but you might want to have the contacts on the door and the door jamb cleaned with electrical contact cleaner. Bad contacts usually stop the door from latching automatically. Get the center track cleaned and lubricated and go from there hope that helps
