FAQ
1. Is the sample available?
Yes, samples can be sent for test if you need.

Q:So...I'm learning about how steel is made and I'm wondering if there is a more environmentally friendy method. I view it as unfriendly b/c of the oxygen that is injected when the steel is in the blast furnace or electric arc furnace. This oxygen bonds w/ the carbon to produce CO and CO2. THis is necessary to reduce the amount of carbon content to produce harder steels. So what other methods are there that can be used w/o having to end up w/ co and co2? thanks
From what I understand of it, US steel is better as the steel is more recycled than Canadian, so a lot of that oxygen / CO2 has already taken place compared to working from ore. The second reason US steel is environmentally ahead of Canadian is that US tends to use Electric Arc, while Canadian uses Basic Oxygen, Basic Oxygen uses more energy than electric arc, and I think it also uses more oxygen, but I would suspect that oxygen that it uses is 'waste oxygen' and not converted into Co2 because the Co2 process is limited by the carbon, and steel only has so much carbon.
Q:What is the standard length of steel coils?
The standard length of steel coils can vary depending on the specific industry and application. However, common standard lengths range from 1000 to 6000 millimeters or 3 to 20 feet.
Q:How are steel coils made?
Steel coils are made through a process called hot rolling, where steel slabs are heated and passed through a series of rollers to reduce their thickness and shape them into long, coiled strips. This process helps enhance the steel's strength and flexibility, making it suitable for various industrial applications.
Q:How are steel coils used in the production of consumer goods?
Steel coils are used in the production of consumer goods as raw materials for various manufacturing processes. They are often shaped, cut, or formed into different components and parts that go into products such as appliances, automobiles, furniture, and construction materials. Steel coils provide strength, durability, and versatility, making them essential in creating high-quality consumer goods.
Q:How are steel coils used in the production of conveyor systems?
Steel coils are used in the production of conveyor systems as they are formed into sturdy, durable belts that are capable of withstanding heavy loads and continuous operation. The coils are typically flattened and shaped into long lengths before being assembled into conveyor belts, ensuring optimal strength and flexibility for efficient material handling.
Q:What are the different types of steel coil packaging materials for export?
Various steel coil packaging materials are commonly utilized for export. These include: 1. Steel Strapping: A frequently employed option, steel strapping ensures robust and reliable packaging for steel coils. It offers excellent protection during transportation and is available in different widths and thicknesses to accommodate varying coil sizes. 2. Stretch Film: This flexible and elastic material is often employed to wrap steel coils securely. By preventing shifting or falling during transit, stretch film ensures tight and dependable packaging. Moreover, its lightweight nature aids in reducing shipping costs. 3. Corrugated Cardboard: Frequently used as an outer packaging material, corrugated cardboard provides additional protection against external impacts and acts as a cushioning material. It is available in various strengths and sizes to suit different coil dimensions. 4. Wooden Crates: Wooden crates are a popular choice for packing larger steel coils. They offer a sturdy and robust packaging solution, effectively safeguarding against impacts, moisture, and other environmental factors. These crates can be customized to fit specific coil sizes and are often employed for heavy-duty or long-distance shipments. 5. Plastic Strapping: Plastic strapping serves as an alternative to steel strapping, particularly for lighter coils. It is lightweight, easy to handle, and resistant to rust and corrosion. Plastic strapping is available in different colors, facilitating easy identification and sorting. 6. VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) Packaging: VCI packaging materials are specifically used to protect steel coils from corrosion during export. These materials release a vapor that forms a protective layer on the surface of the coils, preventing rust and corrosion even in high humidity or harsh environments. When selecting the appropriate packaging material for export, it is crucial to consider the size, weight, and specific requirements of the steel coils. Additionally, adherence to international shipping regulations and standards is essential to ensure a safe and efficient transportation process.
Q:What are the different types of edge conditions in steel coils?
Some of the different types of edge conditions in steel coils include mill edge, slit edge, and sheared edge. Mill edge refers to the original edge produced during the steel manufacturing process. Slit edge is created when the steel coil is cut into narrower strips. Sheared edge is formed when the coil is trimmed using a cutting tool. These various edge conditions have different characteristics and can impact the usability and appearance of the steel coils.
Q:What are the common standards and specifications for steel coils?
There are several common standards and specifications for steel coils that are widely recognized and used in the industry. Some of the most common ones include: 1. ASTM A36/A36M: This specification covers carbon structural steel shapes, plates, and bars of structural quality for use in riveted, bolted, or welded construction. 2. ASTM A572/A572M: This specification covers high-strength low-alloy columbium-vanadium structural steel shapes, plates, sheet piling, and bars for applications in bolted, riveted, or welded construction. 3. ASTM A653/A653M: This specification covers steel sheet, zinc-coated (galvanized) or zinc-iron alloy-coated (galvannealed) by the hot-dip process. 4. ASTM A1011/A1011M: This specification covers hot-rolled, carbon, structural, high-strength low-alloy, high-strength low-alloy with improved formability, and ultra-high strength steel sheet and strip in coils. 5. JIS G3302: This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the requirements for hot-dip zinc-coated steel sheet (galvanized steel sheet) and strip. 6. EN 10111: This European standard specifies the requirements for continuously hot-rolled low carbon steel sheet and strip for cold forming. 7. ISO 3575: This International Organization for Standardization standard specifies the requirements for hot-dip zinc-coated and zinc-iron alloy-coated steel sheet and strip. These are just a few examples of the common standards and specifications used for steel coils. It is important to note that different industries and applications may have specific requirements, so it is always advisable to consult the relevant standards and specifications for the specific application.
Q:Why is iron used to create steel? Why not other elements?
iron came before steel. iron is what was discovered that, under certain circumstances, became a stronger metal: steel. that is why. its like asking why copper is in bronze. because what we call bronze, is an alloy of copper and tin. if you give a more detailed question, i may be able to give a more detailed answer.
Q:What are the common applications of steel coils in construction?
Steel coils are commonly used in construction for various applications such as structural components, including beams, columns, and trusses. They are also used for roofing and cladding systems, as well as in the fabrication of reinforcing bars and precast concrete elements. Additionally, steel coils are utilized in the manufacturing of pipes, tubes, and sheet metal products, serving as a crucial material in the construction industry.
