PORTLAND CEMENT

Portland cement is the most common type of cement in general use around the world, used as a basic ingredient of concrete, mortar, stucco, and most non-specialty grout.

It is a fine powder produced by heating materials in a kiln to form what is called clinker, grinding the clinker, and adding small amounts of other materials.

Several types of Portland cement are available with the most common being called ordinary Portland cement (OPC) which is grey in color, but a white Portland cement is also available.

Application

CNBM Cement can be used for all types of architectural or structural concrete construction. Such application as pre-cast panels and systems, cast-in-place, masonry units, tilt-up panel systems, roofing tiles, terrazzo floors, highway median barriers, tile grout, swimming pools, stucco, culture stone, colored masonry products, cement paints and coatings, and ornamental precast concrete items.

Q:Whats the difference between masonry cement and mortar? If you mix portland cement with sand does it become masonry cement or mortar?
I'm a builder in uk ..but have built in the states ...yes mortar is building sand and portland cement ...sometimes ..depending where it came from the sand can be a little sharp ..we call it hungry ...its not very fatty and not easy to spread ...so we add a product called febmix ....this entrains water ....it makes millions of air bubbles ...this makes the mortar very pliable and easy to spread ....there is another product called MASONRY CEMENT this is portland cement ..but with added LIME ...this makes the mortar flexible and is better if working on older buildings ...but the mortar does dry whiter ...when dry its softer than normal mortar

Q:How many 50kg of cement could be used for a 1 cubic concrete casting?
Making a bunch of assumptions (follow Tigri's good answer) 1 cubic meter of concrete/cement weighs about 2400 kg so you would need 48 bags/units of 50kg each.
Q:I'm tiling a kitchen w/ a plywood subfloor. Is that metal lath reasonable to use or do I need to apply a cement board?
Use cement board. Screw every 8 inches and use the special screws and thinset to put it down. Make sure when you do this that if your appliances are in that you can get the dishwasher out if you ever have to replace it. You might have to raise up the feet on it.

Q:I am putting in a small 12'x60' mobile home on the new property I just bought, to use as an office for my farm. Would I need to put a cement pad in for the home to sit on? Would it need to be the complete size of the mobile home i.e 12x60 or could I use smaller pads just where the wheels are going to sit?
You do not need a full pad, but you do need what are called piers. They are tubular structures, in the ground, down to the frost line. Holes are augered, and then cardboard concrete tubes are placed in, and they are filled with cement. These are what the blocks are placed on, and then the house. They are necessary to avoid ground shift during cold weather. As far as the placement of ANY blocking, contact the manufacturer of your home and give them the serial number. They can fax you a pier plan. This will tell you where to place the piers. Yes, you can also use a full pad. Just contact a manufactured home set crew, and they will tell you what size it needs to be. You will still need a pier plan for proper placement of blocks. If you don't use one, be prepared for sagging floors, doors that won't open, doors that won't close, etc.
Q:What is the use of using oxygen in cement industry?
The ingrediants for the cement need to be heated to a very high temperature to make Portland cement. Usually methane with air is the heat source, but oxygen replacing some of the air is sometimes needed to reach the optimum temperature. Possibly a superior cement is produced if it has negligible nitrogen, argon and carbon dioxide, so oxygen is used instead of air which contains nitrogen, argon and carbon dioxide as well as oxygen.
Q:I am trying to match a cement grout for stone patio to same color as my decomposed granite walkway color. I tried mixing grey cement with decomposed granite as aggregate in various ratios to make the grout (1:2, 1:3) but all are just grey. Would white portland cement (more $$$) work better or still be no match? I am afraid to try the cement color pigments cause I know I will never get it right. The decomposed granite is a light brownish color. They call it quot;orangequot; but that's probably because we are in central Texas and everyone near UT thinks everything is orange. Any help?
The cement color works but a number of small trials are required to get it just correct. The trials need to be made with an adequate size so the components can be measured accurately and reproduced when the sample color is developed. Even after you think you have the correct color, try your proportions once more with a slightly larger sample to verify the correct ratio has been selected. As you are aware the wet color is different than the dried color. I would start with the cheaper cements and only go up in costs if you are not coming up with the color you want. You may want to try using mixtures of different sand colors if the granite is not getting you to the color you want. This definitely is a trial and error project. You may want to go slightly to the darker side of a match in that as the new grout weathers it will lighten slightly. After the grout weathers a very thin mix of cement and pigment can be mixed up and the joints can be painted with the blend. If bad goes to worse you may want to paint all the joints to make them consistent. I have used Liquid Cement Color by Quikrete which I got at Lowes, it was a bear but finally came up with an acceptable match.
Q:My contractor put in a couple of feet of cement board around the lower tub region, but on the upper half of the tub (shower head portion) he put in drywall. He taped the joint where the drywall and cement board meet. A friend who has done some tiling told me that there could be movement on the joints between the cement board and the drywall, which would cause the grout to fail and start to come out. He also didn't like that drywall was used.
Yes, you should be able to just replace the area of wood that is bad. So assuming that this does not go under the shower, there is no reason to remove it. just cut the bad wood out, back to the center of the joist on either side. Add a couple blocks between the joist at the joints of the sub floor and put down a new piece of plywood.
Q:I am building a shower an i have don all the plumbing and have put down my pvc 40 mil liner. I do not know what cement to use and how to mix it for my pan so I can lay my till.
I WOULD RECOMMEND IF U KNOW THE SIZE THAT U GET A FIBERGLAS PAN. U CAN FIND A LOCAL COMPANY TO BUILD ONE YOUR SIZE ALSO
