PORTLAND CEMENT

Portland cement is the most common type of cement in general use around the world, used as a basic ingredient of concrete, mortar, stucco, and most non-specialty grout.

It is a fine powder produced by heating materials in a kiln to form what is called clinker, grinding the clinker, and adding small amounts of other materials.

Several types of Portland cement are available with the most common being called ordinary Portland cement (OPC) which is grey in color, but a white Portland cement is also available.

Application

CNBM Cement can be used for all types of architectural or structural concrete construction. Such application as pre-cast panels and systems, cast-in-place, masonry units, tilt-up panel systems, roofing tiles, terrazzo floors, highway median barriers, tile grout, swimming pools, stucco, culture stone, colored masonry products, cement paints and coatings, and ornamental precast concrete items.

Q:if it is is it renewable or nonrenewable?
Cement is a nonrenewable resource made from limestone. Limestone is comprised of mostly Calcium Carbonate.(CaCO3) a naturally occurring rock type. It is mine from the ground in open quarries or underground mines. It is then ground very finely and heated to make it into cement powder. Once it is used, it is used.
Q:I have tried a mixture of cement, quarry powder and rubble for concrete and the strength is extremely good. I want to know if this is a safe procedure in terms of lasting life.
You mentioned that you have tried a mixture od cement, quarry powder and rubble for mixing concrete and you found that the strength is extremely good. In the building industry, good strength is confirmed by producing 6 inch test cubes and when they have set after 7 days and 14 days, they are crushed to failure with their strength recorded. And not guage by feel. Also the Cement:Sand and granite mixture comes in many different batches for different types of works. For high strength concrete the 1:2: 4 mix is used (for column and load bearing structures) other mixes 1:3:6, or 1:5:8 for low strength structures or fillers. The sand and granite used must also follow a certain grading of different sizes mainly to fill up the voids among the particles to provided good bonding of the cement paste. In conclusion, if you are concreting load bearing structures, you should get the professionals to do it. Else you may one day be sleeping under some fallen concrete structures. That will be too late.
Q:How do I jack out a 5 ft. high garage cement wall that is bowing in. It keeps getting worse?
a poured concrete wall is bowing in? or a cement block wall is bowing in? either way , find out why. correct that problem and if it is concrete i dont think you can just jack it out. if its block you may be able to tear some of it out and have it re-laid...
Q:Thought to be Lafarge cement, after 3 or 4 months should it start to deteriorate? If so why is this?
A bit vague, but in general no cement should start to deteriorate so quickly. Was the reinforcement rusty? That will cause spalling (bursting of the concrete) Also a bad mix or improper curing (curing can be immensely important in some applications). There are also any number of chemicals which will deteriorate concrete and many of them are found right there in the ground, but this should take years to occur. If this came out of a Lafarge truck, there is always the possibility that you got a mix intended for someone else (this happens more often than many realize) There really is no excuse for cement to fail so quickly, if this was a pro job I'd have them back ASAP. If it was a personal job, check your delivery docket and if all is well, call the batch plant and get one of the concrete guys out there to take a look. It's rare, but sometimes you just get a bad batch.
Q:I am planning on laying vinyl sheet flooring in my kitchen floor. Can I use cement backer board as an underlayment.
Cementitious Backer Board
Q:I'm doing a project wich required me to calculate the transfer rate of Barite Cement from tanks to tanks. I've run couple of calculation but i'm not sure it is the correct one or not. Please advise.
Cement is normally a dry powder if the system is a screw the rpm x the screw pitch volume will get you there. If you used a forced eductor use the ACFM x percent of flow /air per cent If you used a vac system and had head and lift and pipe loss and lots of other losses. Just add up all that and get a feasible answer..when you ask get specific... From the E
Q:what is the difference between cement and concrete ?
Cement is a powdery part of the mix. Concrete is the solid, finished product.
Q:Ok so I want to pour cement in this, im assuming, 12 by 8 ft sized area. How mane bags of cement would I need? How many boards do I need? Do I even need them? Do I also need that wire for the bottom? How much does that run?Can anyone give an estimate of the total cost?
It sounds like you're building a patio or something? You need to build a form first. For something this size you'll want to rent a small concrete mixer. This link goes into the details...
Q:I had the foundation repaired in my basement a while back and the dust from the cement is still there, I've washed the floor about 5 times since and it still hasn't come off, got any suggestions about what I should do?
The cement is doing what it should. A previous questioner had trouble with the concrete floor in his garage. He spilt some vinegar on the floor and found it had eaten the surface the next day. If you can convince your wife to let you have some for an experiment ??? Beware vinyl stained by vinegar and swapping one problem for another. GL>
Q:I'm building a model and I want to glue some acrylic sheets to a cement piece. I need to know what kind of glue should I use? Thanks.
Cement is a generic term for any kind of glue. If you mean concrete, inquire at a masonry supply store about surface treatments. They have some sort of epoxy coating for that.
