Excavators are used in many ways:
Digging of trenches, holes, foundations
Material handling
Brush cutting with hydraulic attachments
Forestry work
Forestry mulching
Demolition
General grading/landscaping
Mining, especially, but not only open-pit mining
River dredging
Driving piles, in conjunction with a pile driver
Drilling shafts for footings and rock blasting, by use of an auger or

Hydraulic drill attachment

Hydraulic excavator capabilities have expanded far beyond excavation tasks with buckets. With the advent of hydraulic-powered attachments such as a breaker, a grapple or an auger, the excavator is frequently used in many applications other than excavation. Many excavators feature a quick coupler for simplified attachment mounting, increasing the machine's utilization on the jobsite. Excavators are usually employed together with loaders and bulldozers. Most wheeled, compact and some medium-sized (11 to 18-tonne) excavators have a backfill (or dozer) blade. This is a horizontal bulldozer-like blade attached to the undercarriage and is used for levelling and pushing removed material back into a hole.

Q:I am wanting to convert my log splitter that runs off of tractor hydraulics into a gas motor powered splitter so far this is what I have came up with 8hp gas motor16gpm 2 stage pump What size hydraulic tank should I useAny tips or suggestions would be appreciated
What is the ram capacity in gallons? double it.
Q:Has anyone tried it? Is it a fun substrate? Is it easy to mold into shape? Can I use it for my two baby leopard geckos? How many bags would work for a 30 gallon terrarium? Why can be used if I don't want to use balloons for molding? Water bottles maybe? What else?
I would use what u r comfortable with if it is for reptiles and says safe for rep tiled and ur kind of lizard then it is ok to use especially if the leopard geckos picture is on it. I wouldnt make it i would just buy the thing or something like it it may not work the way u want it to and can turn into a big project.
Q:Can you dig down straight always in the same diameter? I mean if you dig down in 10x10, will you end digging in 10x10?Only theoretically. Only serious answers.
Do you mean a rectangular, 10 x 10 hole? If so: No... at least not very deep. The excavation wall in most earth materials loses structural stability, and so excavation below some practical depth must be sloped to prevent failure. Even in a very competent rock, you cannot go very deep... I'm also neglecting the practicalities of the usual excavation equipment, like a backhoe or excavator, which are limited by the mechanical-arm length and geometry. I guess if you wanted to dig a 10 x 10 hole by HAND (or jackhammer or something), and you progressively reinforced the excavation walls above you as you went, then yes, I suppose you could go pretty deep. OSHA might have something to say about it, but I'm being theoretical as you asked, or semi-theoretical. Now, if you are DRILLING, so that your circular boring is 10 units (inches, feet, whatever) in diameter, then your hole stays more or less the same diameter, although there is wallow-out at the top, and maybe some small percentage of variability throughout- depending on the competence of the earth-material. Even then, you would case a deep boring to prevent wall-failure when you withdraw the augers. What you case it with depends upon your purpose- steel, PVC, cast in-place concrete, whatever. There are also cool boring machines that can drill lovely, round holes of consistent diameter through rock. There's probably plenty of other tech that I'm not experienced or familiar with with, too.
Q:I'm an engineer. I was employed at a rather large company that manufactures heavy duty off road vehicles, (Wheel Loaders and Excavators and such). Recently, I've lost my job because the quot;higher upsquot; in my company decided to cut costs. They hired an engineer from India to replace me at a fraction of the cost of my wage. I'm middle class and when I see these people with six figure incomes it makes me question their true worth? They will argue that it's actually positive for our the company and our ecomony, but as I sit here typing this, (unemployed), I wonder....who are the ones benefitting? I am unemployed. I don't build bulldozers any longer but they are still being built. These bulldozers clear the land for the house that I can no longer afford. The carpenter, plumber, electrician, etc. don't have a job because the house was never built. They don't have to buy tools anymore either. The trucks that deliver those tools will be parked. I wish I could type more, but you get the point!
You sound like a Mechanical Engineers. I suggest you move to an area where engineering jobs have been insourced from Japan or Korea. A Toyota, Hunydai, Honda, or Nissan plant.
Q:please let me know
Your profession doesn't limit you to any particular type of business. You can create anything that you want as long as it fits within legal guidelines set out by your country and state.
Q:What are the steps to building a patio? Here is my assumption, maybe you can add to it or tell me I'm crazy.1) Use a Sod Cutter and clear away 2quot; of Sod.2) Lay Down Pea Gravel3) Lay Down Sand4) Place the Pavers, Bricks, whatever down5) Cover the patio with sand6) Use one of those vibrating things that look like a lawn mower without wheels to pack down the sand in between the bricks.7) Sit back with a Mint Julip on your new patio.Where did I go wrong?gt;
Well you should have this done by Derby Day. I would go slightly deeper than 2. You'll have an inch or so of gravel, an inch of sand then the pavers. We usually mix some mortar with the sand; lay the pavers in this mortar/sand mix dry. Spray a fine mist of water over the installation and run the compactor. Next day, sweep, sweep, sweep sand into the joints. You didn't go wrong anywhere, I just think the mortar will keep it more stable. Then...the mint julep.
Q:I am going to buy a weatherby vanguard with a Barska? 8 - 32x50 mm Illuminated Long - range Excavator Scope. I have not decided whether to get a .308 or a .223 i can get both round for 15 cents a round. I will be doing nothing but target shooting at 500 yards + so knock down power has no effect on my decision .I am deciding on the pure fact of accuracy.any advice appreciated thank you.
i guess the .308 because it would have the longer range... whichever fits you best because the gun that fits best is more accurate.
Q:How big of construction jobs can these do and can someone make a good living owning one where there is always construction going on? What kind of jobs and how big a job can these machines do?
Small track hoes are used in jobs large and small. In almost any construction job, there are tight places that you can't work around with a large hoe. If you are digging a trench for a single electrical duct, you may only need a 6 wide trench, 3' deep. It would be almost silly to use a big machine for this work. Doing utility work in subdivisions where you have to work around fence lines and structures, a small hoe makes sense. But, you would also be in competition with the ditch witch equipment which come in walk-behind models, which are fun to use by the way. Something to consider - it is very easy for a contractor to rent a small piece of equipment to perform a few tasks that are subsidiary to a large job, rather than take on an additional subcontractor to perform the work, just because he happens to own the small machine required. Some contractors rent, rather than own, most of their trucks and machinery. So with only this one piece of equipment, you may not get many jobs on large construction sites. That leaves small jobs for homeowners or small businesses. I rented a nice little trackhoe that stated a 7' reach, or maximum trench depth. In actuality, that depth can only be achieved directly below the machine, so 4' to 5' was the maximum depth of trench I could actually attain. It had a small dozer blade that I thought would save me renting an actual dozer, but this blade almost seemed like a design after thought and was impractical for most conventional use. I ended up returning the machine and renting a dozer anyway.
