- Q:Is boron steel or carbon steel a harder metal? Which one is more flexible?
- Boron is classified as a Metalloid element and is located in Groups 13, 14,15, 16 and 17 of the Periodic Table. An element classified as a Metalloid has properties of both metals and non-metals. Some are semi-conductors and can carry an electrical charge making them useful in calculators and computers.
- Q:I'm trying to put together a small structure using galvanized steel electrical conduit (3/4) and I can't seem to find a T-junction conduit coupler anywhere. I'm wondering if I could weld the tubing together, but I'm not sure if I can weld galvanized steel. Also, if I can weld them, is there any special technique that I need to use outside of regular acetelene/oxygen torch and solder?

- Q:How are steel coils priced?
- Steel coils are typically priced based on several factors including the current market demand and supply, the grade and quality of the steel, production and transportation costs, as well as any additional processing or customization requirements.
- Q:Can steel coils be coated with anti-graffiti materials?
- Yes, steel coils can be coated with anti-graffiti materials. These materials are designed to prevent graffiti from adhering to the surface of the steel coil, making it easier to remove any graffiti that may be applied.
- Q:also what are the factors of location of these steel plants
- I work for a pipe manufacturer in Birmingham, AL. We have multiple divisions including two specialized steel pipe divisions and a ductile iron pipe divisions. As far as the steel pipe divisions, they purchase skelp from suppliers. All of the steel that they purchase is of domestic manufacture, and is very expensive. As for the ductile iron division, we manufacture our own iron for the pipe. To get the iron that we need, we buy scrap in the form of cars, refrigerators, rejected pipe that we produce, etc. It is shredded in one part of the plant, and then melted and cast as a new product. This has become very problematic, scrap prices have skyrocketed in the US due to the large demand from countries such as China who gobble all of the material because they need great quantities of it. So, to answer your question, we get steel from recycling and then some raw iron ore. As to where we get the raw ore, I'm not 100% sure.
- Q:How are steel coils used in the marine industry?
- Steel coils are commonly used in the marine industry for various purposes such as shipbuilding, offshore structures, and maritime equipment. These coils are utilized in the construction of ship hulls, decks, and bulkheads due to their high strength and durability. Additionally, they are often used in the fabrication of marine equipment such as cranes, winches, and anchor systems. Steel coils are crucial in ensuring the structural integrity and longevity of marine vessels and components, making them an essential material in the marine industry.
- Q:How are steel coils used in the manufacturing of metal furniture?
- Steel coils play a vital role in the production of metal furniture as they are an essential component. Typically made from high-quality steel, these coils add strength, durability, and stability to the furniture. To incorporate steel coils into the manufacturing process, the first step involves cutting them to the desired length and width. This precise task is accomplished using specialized machinery and tools to ensure accurate dimensions for the furniture components. Once the coils are cut, they undergo shaping and forming processes to create various furniture parts such as chair frames, table bases, or cabinet structures. These coils can be bent, welded, or manipulated to achieve the desired shapes and designs. After the shaping process, additional treatments are applied to the steel coils to enhance their aesthetic appeal and provide protection against corrosion. This includes sanding, polishing, and the application of protective coatings or finishes to create a smooth and visually appealing surface for the furniture. In addition to their structural support and visual appeal, steel coils greatly contribute to the overall functionality of metal furniture. They possess excellent load-bearing capacity, ensuring that the furniture can withstand weight and pressure without bending or breaking. Furthermore, steel coils make metal furniture highly resistant to wear and tear, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. With the ability to endure harsh weather conditions, these coils are particularly ideal for patio furniture or outdoor seating arrangements. In conclusion, steel coils are indispensable in the manufacturing of metal furniture as they provide essential strength, durability, and aesthetic appeal. Their versatility and reliability have made them the preferred choice for furniture manufacturers worldwide.
- Q:What are the different types of steel coil edge condition options?
- There is a variety of steel coil edge condition options available, each offering distinct characteristics and advantages. The most common types are as follows: 1. Mill Edge: This is the basic and widely used type of steel coil edge condition. It occurs naturally during the hot rolling process and is characterized by a rough and uneven edge. Mill edge coils are typically suitable for applications where edge quality is not crucial, such as general fabrication. 2. Slit Edge: Slit edge coils are produced by cutting the edges of the steel coil using a slitting machine. This process results in a smoother and more uniform edge compared to mill edge coils. Slit edge coils are often preferred for applications that require a higher level of precision, such as in the automotive or electrical industries. 3. Trim Edge: Trim edge coils are similar to slit edge coils but undergo an additional trimming process to eliminate any defects or imperfections from the edges. This creates an even smoother and cleaner edge, making trim edge coils ideal for applications where appearance and aesthetic quality are important, such as in architectural or decorative purposes. 4. Deburred Edge: Deburred edge coils undergo a deburring process to remove any sharp or burr-like edges. This is done to ensure safety and prevent injuries during the handling or processing of the coils. Deburred edge coils are commonly used in industries where worker safety is a priority, such as in construction or manufacturing. 5. Rounded Edge: Rounded edge coils have their edges rounded off to eliminate any sharp corners or edges. This type of edge condition is often utilized in applications where the coils will come into contact with delicate materials or surfaces, as it helps prevent scratching or damage. It is important to consider the specific requirements of the application and the desired outcome when choosing a steel coil edge condition. Each type offers its own unique benefits, and factors such as precision, appearance, safety, and functionality should be taken into account when selecting the appropriate option.
- Q:I was curious to what type of steel I should get if I wanted something that kept its edge longer than 154cm but is still just as stainless. I don't know much about knife steels inform me please?
- If you want a good quality knife, stay away from Stainless, I would suggest one that is a mix of high and low carbon steel, high carbon holds the edge, but is brittle, low carbon is more malleable, which prevents from breaking when used.
- Q:Im looking to learn guitar and i was wondering if steel strings are too hard to use as a beginner. I am also self teaching so any good lesson books/starting guitar recommendations are welcome !! thanks.
- Best way to build calluses and finger strength. I am assuming that you are looking at an acoustic guitar. Buy Martin Phosphor Bronze 12s or 13s. Not to mention Classical guitars that use nylon strings usually have a very flat radius to the fingerboard thus making it harder to reach common chords for a beginner. DO NOT learn on an electric.
