- Q:I'm wanting to paint 1 Corinthians 13 on our bedroom ceiling in some sort of spiral design. I just want it to be pretty and look professional. I'm weary about doing the spiral design thought because I just don't know how I would get it just right... but I can't think of any other design that would look right.. I think it would look funny just written straight across on the ceiling. Anyone have any ideas or tips on doing this?
- I agree that it might be nice as a border or on the wall. If you really want a spiral on the ceiling you ought to do it first on a big piece of tracing paper and then transfer it onto the ceiling. (It would be really hard to work free hand on the ceiling and have it look nice) There are various ways to transfer using the paper like tracing over the back of the letters with a special soft pencil then putting the paper in place and re tracing over the front of the letters. It will leave a faint line for you to paint over later.
- Q:Im in the process of finishing my basement , unfortuantly my basement ceiling is only 78 inches high. Debating on either using drop ceiling or just using 2x4 's as furring strips and then using the tongue and groove ceiling tiles (these are one square foot). I want something that can easily be removed for any problems with wiring and pipes so drywall is out of the question. I perfer the drop ceiling but only wanna drop it down 2 inches not sure if that will be enough clearance to install the tiles? whats the minimum space you need from the floor joist on the ceiling and the metal grid for the drop ceiling? thanks
- In order for recessed lights/installing-replaicng tiels you will need a minimum of 3 inch clearance...ANything less and you will encounter big problems especiall when you get to the end.... Why on earth would you use 2x4's as furring stirps...That is way too heavy lumber for its intended purpose...Ususally 2x2 are what is called for in these dor to applications....Cheaper/lighter and jsut as effective...If you go with that ceiling system reconsider using 2x2 furring stirps in place of the 2x4....Good luck

- Average total materials are about .90 - $1.00 per square foot of ceiling area. Normal labor if needed is about $1.20 - $1.30 per square foot. If you choose to go to a 2' x 2' grid/tile pattern vs. 2'x4' add about .50 sq foot for grid and then add difference in ceiling tile cost. Regular 2'x4' ceiling tiles are about $2.40 for a 2'x4' tile. Some upscale 2'x2' reveal edge tile (these tile have a raised section that sits down below the grid and creates what they call a revealed edge. These tiles can be as much as $5 - $6 each for just 4 square feet. If you have any ceiling fans that need lowered into the new ceiling you can purchase a special ceiling box bracket that fits into the grid-work for about $40 ea. They are made by *B-Line. You need the following: a. Wall mold - this is the L shaped metal pc. that you install around the perimeter of the room on the wall. b. Main Runners - These are the main pc. of grid-work that are placed on 4' centers. I suggest you run these perpendicular to the existing ceiling joist. Layout the main runners so they create the same border tile on the sides, and the same border tile on the ends. c. 4' cross tees - These are the metal pc. that snap into the slots on the main runners - place these on 2' centers into the precut slots of the main runners. d. 2' cross tees - Use these when using 2'x2' ceiling tiles. e. Lag eyes - These are threaded point screws that have a flat end with a hole in it. Screw these into the ceiling so they hit an existing ceiling joist. Then use #9 ceiling wire with about 8 tail hooked in the lay eye hole - Wrap around itself about 3 times and leave the excess wire hanging down about 12' below your new desired ceiling level. f. Lag eye driver - This is a hand tool that fits into a cordless/corded drill. It fits over the lag eyes and easily drives them through the ceiling and into the wood of the ceiling joist. If you need any specific installation tips just ask.

- Q:Was tearing out an acoustical ceiling grid while the electrician was taking out the fluorescent lights. What I didn't know was that he was taking them out hot. He left wires uncapped and the hot leg touched the grid I had ahold of. It grabbed me for about 3 seconds. My head snapped back and I could feel my mouth open to scream but nothing came out. I was aware of everything going on and my only thought was that I was going to die. Luckily I fell backwards off the ladder. I had burns on my left hand and right forearm and stomach. Everywhere I was touching the grid. My arms were cherry red from the elbows down for awhile. 2 weeks later my arms still tingle and my wrists have a terrible burning pain every couple of days. It was a very religious experience. I did kick the electrician off the job. My question is did the current go across my chest or through my heart from one arm to the other and could it have killed me if I hadn't fallen from the ladder. I guess I'm lucky I'm 6'4 and 250 lbs. I feel lucky anyway.

- Q:Yes, I know I should get floor lamps since I have no overhead lights, but are there any non permanent ceiling hooks that would let you hang a light (as in weight) plug-in fixture?Also, what about from a tiled ceiling? Are there accessory stores for things that hang from the grid part?
- there are hooks with a double stick foam tape that will easily hold 10lbs. of weight. (Any hardware store) As long as what you are hanging is not too heavy, you should be fine. you can remove (when the time comes) with a razor blade and a little touchup paint.
