- Are you positive about that part number? I can't find it on the Net or in the Allied Electronics catalog. AE usually has just about every IC that exists.
- Q:There's a huge construction site (buildings being torn down) that I drive by on my way to work, and it's full of various heavy equipment. I'm fascinated by the excavators, because they remind me of giant, toothy quot;mouthsquot; on the end of long arms. It's also interesting to see how precisely they can chomp, lift and/or move things with their quot;jawsquot;. (I know, they're actually called buckets, heads and/or attachments, but I like the metaphor of mouths and jaws. *grin*)I was just curious how easy or difficult excavators are to operate? I'm guessing they're more challenging than some pieces of construction equipment. Hopefully at least some folks here have experience using them. Thanks and have a great weekend! :)
- wow....you sure have an obsession starting there...lol anyway, it's not too hard to get the basics down, how to move the different mechanisms, but you need to have lots of practice before you do anything that requires precision. One wrong move and all that horsepower can make big damage! And they're like most pieces of heavy equipment...they're very challenging to operate well. I have some experience pipelining, so I have seen lots of operators. Most have to have years of experience before they're really good. Its tough to get someone to show you how if you're not being paid....you can rent tiny ones at some rental places if you really want to give it a try! pick a wide open space, and remember, you have to have the ground searched for buried pipelines, electrical lines, phone, water and sewer, etc before you dig.

- Q:I recently lost my vision in one eye (permanently) due to lack of maintenance (on there end) on equipment that I rented. I rented a excavator from a rental company and shortly after using it part of the machinery (the tooth from the bucket) flew off and hit me in the eye permanently blinding me. Also there was no windshield on this to pull down for protection. Is there a legal case to this? The piece that hit me was approx. 3quot; wide x 6quot; long x 2quot; thick of solid steel, hitting me at approx. 30-40 mph and almost knocking me out. I'm not talking about a little piece of metal that would bounce off of safety glasses. The metal of course did not actually go into my eye but rather hit me so hard it smashed my eyeball flat. Also, we found out later that the bolts holding the tooth on were not the ones made for this excavator, were not the right size and were not hardened bolts. They should not have been used period.

- Do not use loose substrates that can be accidentally (or sometimes intentionally) consumed. They can block up your leopard gecko's bowels and kill them; this sort of impaction, especially from substrates like sand or grit, are the leading cause of early death in captive leos. You also do not want to use a substrate that retains moisture overly well. While these are great substrates for reptiles that require humidity like the African fat-tail or golden gecko, they are not healthy for leopards, who come from dry environments and are at risk for developing respiratory infections if living within conditions that are too humid. The best substrate to use for your leo is reptile carpet, paper towel, or slate/kitchen tile. All three cannot be ingested, are not great at retaining moisture, and are easier to clean than moss or soil. The only place where a moisture-retaining substrate is acceptable is in the leo's moist hide, where you want it to be humid in a small area to help them shed their skin every once in a while.
