Q:I have a Kubota GL7000 portable diesel generator. now I've followed the recommended maint. schedule on it, new fuel filters, oil filters, oil changes, etc. I have just under 1,000 hours on it right now, it smokes a little when it's cold but when it warms up it runs nice and smooth and with no smoke, it seems to me that it's running really solid and I have no complaints or problems, but I'm curious how long a generator like this (2 years old) should last me?
Just give it a lot of love and it'll last a real long time. haha And when it dies, get another. Don't worry about it.

If oil prices continue to go up with no sign of relief (meaning years into the future) then, as others have already said, I think many of the large railroads which could afford it would begin contemplating energizing at least their most heavily used main lines. Still, even with today's AC technology being very efficient and allowing one to string wires over vast distances without a significant power loss it is still awfully expensive. Trains Magazine covered a piece a few years ago on the likelihood of railroads (Class Is) ever electrifying significant portions of their systems and came to the conclusion that unless absolutely justifiable they would seek other alternatives due to high costs of construction. While steam might be such an alternative they would try it's still pretty maintenance intensive and would require frequent fuel stops resulting in increased transit times (even with the newer technologies the motive power would employ). Just purely an educated guess but I think that the industry might go for something like the locomotives developed by RailPower Technologies, which use batteries and diesel generators as prime movers. If a company like RailPower could develop a much more powerful model than what they currently offer (which is only around 2,000 hp), similar to the SD70ACes and ES44ACs of today, then you would have an extremely fuel efficient locomotive that is powerful enough to move the heaviest freight yet also very environmentally friendly.

A battery powered wheel chair has everything you need. You can buy an old one cheap and fix it up to work as your automated vehicle. Use Lithium Ion batteries for maximum power or one of the new AGM car batteries that provide deep discharge operation.

I work for CSA as well, first off are you western or TCN? If you were offered a specific position and didn't get it you should be talking with HR. Or get a Kuwaiti lawyer the company is in violation of labor laws. CSA lately has been doing some very unethical things and are going to get caught.

There may be no difference. It will depend on the application. For example, if I specified an ATS that had the proper voltage and current capacities, the only other item of concern would be to determine if the transfer would be a make before break or a break before make type of transfer. In a make before break, it would mean the sources would be placed into parallel operating condition before one of the sources was interrupted. This would require the ability to synchronize the sources. Which means the frequency, voltage and phase relationship of the sources must match before they are placed into parallel service. On a break before make switch, usually only phase rotation and approximate voltage levels are of concern. Hope this helps, Newton1Law
Q:I have a generator overseas and it has been giving me problems. It ran for 7 days, died due to over heat. fixed that prob, now it wont start, gives me a code 0097 01, water in fuel. but the sensor is good, wires read good. At a brick wall here.
I looked online and this company makes everything from small gas driven to large diesel driven. You say the code is for water in the fuel and if it's diesel water would ruin the injectors so it very well could not allow it to start for that reason. At a minion you need to tell us a little more. Did it shut its self down for the over heat or did it size and shut down? that is a good point to start with.
Q:How bout you??? According to physics traction is not dependent on surface area. I'm vehicles with extremely tall wheels that absorb energy from impact run more efficiently do to lower rotating weight and driven by direct hub drive dc motors powered by small diesel generator/ solar and battery reserve. What would this look like? Who cares about looks!
John W has is, the effect is called sticktion. And as for hub motors being heavy. you could use hydraulic drive.Hydraulic motors are about tenth the size of combustion engines for the same power. Given that the required pump and motors would weigh about the same as a gearbox and would also do that job, its a possibility.
