Q:If global warming is as bad as Scientists say, two hours a month without power seems like a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things. I'm sure theres a way to keep hospitals running and emergency services running. All shops would have to lock down I guess people would start rioting or something, but I would think there would have to be some sort of way to covertly have different towns and counties shut down for a couple hours discretely each monthmaybe at night when people are sleeping? Just a thought.: Of course it would depend on the power source. It is not the use of electricity that is causing problems to the global climate, but how it is generated.

Q:Aside from the fact that they just had a massive natural disaster and there resources are stretched to say the least, what is main reason they cant get the reactor under control?From what I've heard it's not receiving enough power to maintain cooling system so it can maintain controlled fission.In my limited understanding it seems the plant survived relatively unscathed other than there diesel generators being flooded/destroyed. The plant is currently on battery backup's which I assume are relatively large and cant just be switched out to maintain the cooling system. Is it just an issue of supplying enough power for the cooling system? Couldn't they park the the USS Ronald Reagan off shore there and borrow some power until stabilized, considering you could power a sizable city off its reactor?: You could, but that's unnessecary at this point. The batteries supply enough power to the facility for them to shut down the reactor if they have to, so as long as they still have their kill switch there's no need for panic just yet.

Q:Hi I'm going to start up an emergency AC generator driven by Diesel engine that generate 220+ VOLTS but I don't know what are the procedure to start up of an AC generatorand also what are the procedure to STOP the generator. please help :): Is this generator going to be used in a location which is normally served by grid power. If so is it proposed to use the distribution system normally used when on the grid? If the answer to these questions is yes. The first step is to isolate the normal energy source. This has two purposes. a) to protect your equipment when power is restored and b) to protect people and equipment working on the external circuit. Once this is isolated wire the generator into the circuit (closing isolating switch if hard wired). Start the generator using normal procedures with minimal load in place. Slowly increase load until desired effect is achieved. When external power is returned. Slowly reduce load and isolate generator. Restore normal grid connection. Shut off generator.

Q:i means what's happen in diesel generator while just switch on ?: I am trying to figure out what you are asking? Step 1 is guess is to press start? What are you looking for? One last guess,, did it start?

Q:I have read Wikipedia as to why Diesel Fuel can cost so much so please don't send me any links. Just want your opinion or 1st hand knowledge. My understanding is that Diesel is supposed to be the lowest cost fuel to make. but it costs the most. Why???: Yeah, I think since it is in higher demand, the cost goes up. It's my understanding that diesel is easier to make than gasoline. Back in the 70's it was cheaper than gasoline. But since a lot of vehicles use diesel, the cost goes up because the market will support it. Still, gallon for gallon, diesel gives better milage. But it stinks.

Q:I live in a location without municipal water supply. I could buy a natural gas generator, and hire an electrician to connect it to my breaker box, but I believe there is a way to connect solar panels to a battery system to provide enough power for my 220 volts submerged pump. I have 2 horses, 24 chickens, 2 dogs, 4 cats, 3 parakeets, and 3 people that need water in the event of a hurricane, national power grid attack,etc. There are solar powered generators advertised, but they are not powerful enough for 220. Also, my whole neighborhood of over 200 homes all lives off their own water wells, and we all suffered during hurricane Ike: 10 days without a water supply.: For solar you would want to have a bank of batteries to store that power. Like the other guy said, you're better off buying a Honda Generator or even just a diesel (not gasoline, DIESEL) powered pump for emergencies.

Q:here's the thing.Imagine that I have a generator that uses diesel as the fuel. then consider following two cases.Case 1 - using one 1kW bulb for one hourCase 2 - using ten 100W bulbs for one hourI know both cases consume a same amount of power that is 1kWH.but I THINK the demand (which is measured in kVA or just kW) is higher in the second case. (is it??)so my question is that, does the generator burn a same amount of fuel at both the cases regardless of higher demand in second case?? and I'd much obliged if you can say how??: As such more power demands more fuel to be burnt , but in case of Power generator ( DG set ) , in both cases peak demand in both cases you cited of 1kw would continue to generate same units of power of 1 kwhr on peak ( more power demand ) so it would draw same amount of fuel to be burnt.

Q:I heard about the reactor and could someone tell me the story and what could happen thx.: The earthquake made the Nuclear power plants shut down automatically, which shut off everything. So the reactor couldn't cool it self with water. Because of this, it overheated, the power plant exploded, causing radiation to leek out. I tried to explain this as best as I could. You should read a news article about it, because I just wrote down what I heard. Which might not be 100%

Q:I am purchasing a LARGE MOBILE TRAILER to be my mobile workshop. I wonder which would best regarding fumes and general maintenance. Onan approx. 7000w is my preffered choice at this point.: if you have natural gas this is more convient. and all the fuels are about equal the cheapest fuel is one that you dont have to go a distance to buy but beware of the propane. they charge any price they want ok.

Q:can they be quiet? I was thinking about buying one sense we seem to have an outage every winter. Just wouldn't want to have an extremely loud generator running disturbing the neighbors: diesel generator normally make huge noise if you want to less this sound then use a soundproof diesel generator.
