At one point we had purchased a Moen faucet, but the new faucet had like rigid pipe connections whereas the old one has what appears to be soft copper much smaller pipe connections. - it is easy. get a plumbing basics book, from the library, friend or buy one. if the connections are screw on you will easily find replacements connections that go from the the shut-off valves to the new faucet , otherwise some basic plumbing will be needed.

- Q:Ok I was washing my bathroom sink with some sort of cleaner and apparently it was not the right kind. Since then the sink does not drain properly (dirty water stays in it for days and days) and there are a million little hairs (from shaving) stuck in the basin. It seems it melted whatever material it is made out of (some kind of ceramic, i think). Not only is it gross and hard to use (I cant run water for very long or it will fill up) but I am also afraid what it is going to cost. Does anyone know how I can fix this, or how much it is going to cost (to be taken out of my apartment deposit)? Thanks.
- You think you melted it? That kind of sink is man made and needs only windex to clean. Ceramic doesn't melt. If this is a rental unit you'll have to replace it. Stores sell a can drain clearer that you put over drain and push down. It has a large red top with a pencil sized hole. The can seals itself against drain and shoots a powerful air blast down to clear it out when you push down on the can.

- There are a lot of variable to this question. First, labor rates are very dependent on where you live (city/state). Is it a pedestal sink or one with a vanity cabinet? If it is a vanity, is it a drop in or under mount sink? There is also the question of size. There really is no standard, as sinks are made different sizes to fit in different spaces. A pedestal sink will generally cost a little more in both labor and for the sink itself. I would love to give you an idea of cost, but with so little information, I'd hate to give you bad information. Your best bet would be to call around to a couple local plumbing shops and have them come out and give you an estimate. A lot will do this at no cost to you, and should be able to bring out some catalogs of different sink and faucet styles for you to look and and decide what you'd like. This will also give them a chance to look and see if there are any additional obstacles that would change the cost of the job (shut off valves that don't work, and other piping issues). FYI, the shop I work for has a rate of $160/hr for labor. In your local area this may be different, and will affect the cost. Plumbing rates across the country fluctuate A LOT. Call around for rates.
