Q:How is a photocell used in an automatic garage door opener?
An infrared beam is generated on one side of the garage door opening and pointed at a photocell across the opening to the other side of the door opening close to the floor of the garage. If this beam is ever broken by a car,a cat, a toddler, etc. while the door is coming down, then the motor reverses and the door goes up. That way the door will never crush anything when it gets to the ground. Or if you dont pull the car into the garage far enough, It wont come down on the car and damage it.
Q:Garage door stops about 12" above garage floor both, opening and closing. One of the sensors has a yellow LED...tried to realign and adjust manually, could see that alignment was ok, but sensor light still yellow and problem persists...wife is on me and the baseball playoff are on, please help...
Another thing you need to do annually is go to Lowes/HD and go to the garage door aisle and get a can of garage door lube. I highly recommend. I had to replace a gear unit on my G-door. Buy it, put on a mask, spray it, and listen to how smoothly your G-door runs afterwards. But, yellow led on your G-door sensor, probably time to consult manual (hope you saved/filed). Or go where you bought and ask about yellow led. Good luck.
Q:Sometimes when I walk though automatic doors like at a supermarket they jam up. Fot a while it happened every time, its very annoying cuz you think its going to close on you or something. They usually jam open and the motors are still running and buzzing. Alot of the time the sensors dont pick me up when I'm going to them either... I am short but kids go through these doors everyday with no trouble. so why dont they like me lol
maybe your not so hot?? LOL I thought most automatic doors ran on infrared sensors. They open when you approach them because they sense your body temps. Are you wearing a lot of clothes when your trying to enter them, like a heavy jacket or something of that sort. Either that, or your walking too slow.
Q:I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the auto door locks are a pain in the backside! According to the owner's manual you have to take it to the dealer to have it disabled. Does anybody know how it's done?
I have no clue, but I agree with you that would be a pain. Where I live nobody locks their doors ...not the car doors anyway, and many don't bother locking the house doors. My car keys usually stay in the ignition, that way I'll always know where they are... and that way, if I'm somewhere and parked in someone's way, they can move the car out of the way without having to bother me. Your earlier commenter will probably think I live 100 years ago, LOL.
Q:how do cold temps affect older automatic garage door openers?
cold temps really don't affect the openers as much as it does the garage door, which in turns makes the opener work harder. I usually try to tell my customers to make sure that they oil (not grease or any type of spray grease because it gets stiffer as the temp gets colder) with an oil can and regular motor oil. oil all the rollers pulley wheels and or bearings twice a year, right before winter and right after winter because the cold temps make everything on the door work harder. disconnect your door from your opener and see how it works buy hand, it should be rather easy to lift - not heavy. if so, it may need some tension added to the springs. with the door unhooked oil all rollers and pulley wheels. open and close your door 5-6 times to work in the oil. give them all another little shot of oil. open/close your door couple more times. your door should be running smoothly now. check for worn out roller and pulley wheels. if bad replace them. hook your door back up to the opener and see how it works now. the rule of thumb - the easier the door works the longer the opener will last.
Q:I had the truck towed into the dealer for electrical problems , when the truck got there the power door locks worked , after the dealer work on it , they called me and said it was done and that I could pick it up,the first thing I noticed the power locks didnt work anymore so I told them right away and they said that the locks had nothing too do with what they did and I would have too pay too get them fixed.
i cannot beleive that people make up answers when they have absolutely no idea how a car works. (see above answer). the door locks on a 2002-2008 ram truck are solely controlled by the instrument cluster. the insturment cluster has an integral body control module making it a cabin compartment node. the pdc is under the hood along with the pcm. the only thing the pcm or pdc (called the IPM on 02 and newer trucks) is this. when your vehicle speed reaches 15 mph the cluster looks at tps postion. it does this through the pci bus system that the module communicate on. vehicle speed is broadcast over the bus for all modules to pick up. if tps is under 15% the ccn will lock the doors automatically. there is no power door lock relay. there is no speed sensor that makes a relay work. they are controlled by a low side driver from the ccn, not a relay. what exaclty did they do to your truck when you had it worked on? what was wrong with it and what did they replace?
Q:Okay so I has a 00 chevy silverado with manual locks an I found a pair of automatic locks from another truck that's a chevy Sierra 00 . If I take the out of that truck would I be able to put them in mine ? And also can I do that with the automatic windows to ?
If your year of truck came with electric locks as an option, the plug will be in the door. All you have to do is add the hardware, change out the door panels to fit the buttons.
Q:Specifically can say that how to make outside the light signal into a control signal, how to achieve control? Need a single chip?
A launch tube, a receiving tube, side by side. When the person approaches, the emitted infrared rays are reflected and received by the receiving tube. Resulting in the receiver tube to generate a signal, through the component processing on the line. Do not need to use single-chip.
Q:I recently purchased a 2000 Grand Am that had the stereo stripped out by the previous owner. It appears that there may have also been an alarm installed as well that was stripped out. When I recieved the vehicle the automatic door locks did not work and still do not. When I try to use them I do hear a click noise coming from the interrior fuse box. I need to know where I should start looking for the reasoning behind why it is not working and how to go about fixing it. Any ideas?
.The clicking you hear is the relay snapping shut. That really narrows the problem down. At least with that you know the remote, the receiver, and the coil feed is working. You need to get to the relay and see if it is getting power on the hot side (not the coil). If so then see if it is making contact to send the power to the locks. Then you'll have to just trace it to the doors. I seriously doubt both of the solenoids (part that locks and unlocks the door) went bad at the same time.
Q:District electric door renovation project, what should the choice of engineering business?
If it is a closed area, there are residential doors and unit doors at the same time need to transform, in the choice of engineering before the first to understand the price of a good electric door machine, so you can probably know the total price level District door of the electric door machine has pull arm type, roller type, buried type.
